Changing Focus

October 13, 2008 16:21 by Chris Smith

The inspiration for today's blog came from having my eyes tested.  I have them done annually and of late I have noticed that reading small print has become increasingly challenging.  I have to hold small print about 12 inches away from me before I read it!  No surprises that this is an evolutionary process that we all go through.  The delightful optometrist re-assured me that my long sighted vision would most likely improve, if not rectify itself completely, but the bad news is that the near sighted vision will deteriorate.  Oh crap!  Or is it?  It really doesn't make that much difference if I wear a pair of varifocals when needed, or get second pair just for reading.  The thing that struck me when I was having the various eye tests run, was the intuitive nature of the human brain when trying to decipher letters and numbers in the absence of being able to see them correctly.  I found that I did remarkably well.  Some things that I guess, were of course incorrect. As a hypnotherapist, this is perhaps not that surprising as I encourage people to use their imagination all the while.  I certainly use mine, whenever I can.

There are a number of reasons for sharing this with you in today's blog.  Firstly, you might like to make a few checks on your own breadth of vision.  Are you seeing things as they really are, or is your focus distorted?  Sometimes we don't always know there is a problem with what we see and focus on, until we have some way of testing it.  If you are working on a project, a presentation or even writing; you might want to seek the opinions of others and get some input.  Remember that all input is valuable in some way.  The additional information that you get will allow you to change your focus accordingly.  Additionally you might want to stop straining your vision when the thing that you are looking for is right in front of you!  Your ideal partner maybe somebody that you already know.  The inspiration for your next chapter might already be contained in the notes that are sitting on your desk............................are you beginning to get the picture?

Of course, if you don't like what you see, then you need to change the picture or focus on something else in the picture.  Maybe you need to look at something in the background or just up to the right or left.  Whatever you need to do, decide what you want to focus on each day and make pictures that inspire you.
